Heart Cookies

For Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, or anytime you want to give something sweet (and healthy) to someone you love!

I love serving these for Valentine's Day, Sweetes Day, Mother's Day, or anytime I want to give someone I love something that's sweet and healthy, too. These cookies are really easy to make by hand, but if you have a heart-shaped cookie cutter, feel free to roll the dough out with a rolling pin and use the cookie cutter to make your hearts.

Makes 12-14 cookies

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes


  • 1 cup pastry flour
  • 1 ¼ cup oat flour
  • 1 cup finely ground cashews
  • ¼ t. salt
  • ½ t. vanilla
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • ½ cup canola oil
  • Raspberry, Strawberry or Cherry Fruit Preserves


1.Preheat the oven to 350 F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, sift together the flours, cashews and salt. In another small bowl, whisk together the vanilla, maple syrup and canola oil until just combined. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and mix well until forming a soft and sticky dough. Divide the dough into 2 discs, wrap each disc in plastic, and place in the freezer for 10 minutes.

3. Remove the dough from the freezer, divide dough into 12-14 portions and, using your hands, shape the portioned pieces into heart shapes, placing the cookies on the prepared sheet as you work. Using your thumbs, lightly press the surface of the cookie to create a heart-shaped well in each cookie, making sure that the edges of the cookies are slightly elevated like a crust. Fill each “heart” with about 2 T. fruit preserves and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve at room temperature.
