Chocolate Orange Soda Scones

This irish soda scones recipe is one of my favorite vegan scones recipe, prepared with the delicious combination of chocolate and orange.

Makes 8 large scones or 12 regular scones

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 35 minutes

Total Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar, plus more for sprinkling
  • 2 T. grated orange peel
  • 1 T. baking powder
  • 1 t. baking soda
  • 1/4 t. salt
  • 3 T. soy mayonnaise
  • 2 T. orange juice
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 clementines, peeled and separated into sections
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped dairy-free dark chocolate
  • Coarse salt or Hawaiian sea salt, for sprinkling

Preparation:

1. Preheat the oven to 325 F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, grated orange peel, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together the soy mayonnaise, orange juice, and water. Add the wet ingredients to the dry, mixing until just combined. Fold in the clementine sections and grated dark chocolate until evenly distributed. Drop the dough into 8 large mounds on the prepared baking sheet and sprinkle with sugar and coarse salt. Bake until golden brown, about 30-35 minutes. Let scones cool completely on a wire cooling rack.
