With Valentine's Day quickly approaching, heart-shaped cookies and sweets are all the rage, but they're rarely actually good for our hearts. As most in the dairy-free and vegan communities realize, most cookie recipes actually contain a lot of un-heart-healthy ingredients that are high in saturated fats and cholesterol, like butter and eggs.
So, to truly celebrate our hearts and the hearts of our sweethearts this Sunday, I thought I'd share one of my favorite dairy-free Valentine's Day recipes: Healthy Heart Cookies, which are prepared with a thumbprint cookie base of heart-healthy canola oil, cashews, oats, maple syrup and whole wheat pastry flour and then jeweled with fruit preserves. They're one heart-shaped treat that you can feel good about sharing with those you love!
